Today the Spinning Wheels Motor Club descended on the small roads of Dumfries and Galloway with a sixty mile jaunt through the countryside. Today is Drive It Day, a national event organised annually by the FBHVC encouraging older vehicles onto Britain’s roads for one big day out.
Our run was also a treasure hunt, with drivers and co-drivers looking for the answers to cryptic clues along a defined route. We met up at Dumfries and set off at timed intervals, following instructions out of the town towards Terregles. It was a gorgeous route, taking the cars out towards Shawhead, Dunscore and Moniave before turning back towards St John’s Town of Dalry and eventually Castle Douglas.
Our final destination was the Market Inn at Castle Douglas for a three course lunch.
Much fun was had by all! Team Flacks won the treasure hunt, scoring full marks and narrowly beating Team Z3 into second place. The route was beautiful, even when the weather began to close in, with a mini Stelvio Pass at Glenkiln!
The meal at the Market Inn was exceptional, with great attention to detail and care given by the waiting staff. Thoroughly recommended! All in all a very successful and enjoyable day!
